📢 IMPORTANT SAFETY MESSAGE – ASBESTOS AWARENESS AFTER SEVERE WEATHER

Following the recent severe weather, many homes and structures have suffered damage. If your roof, walls, sheds, fences, or any building materials containing asbestos have been impacted, please read carefully:

⚠️ The SES is unable to assist with asbestos-related damage.
Asbestos can pose a serious health risk when disturbed. For your safety and the safety of our volunteers, SES crews cannot complete temporary repairs, tarping, or make-safes on:
Damaged asbestos roofs
Broken or exposed asbestos sheeting
Structures suspected of containing asbestos

✔️ What you should do
If you suspect asbestos is present:
Do not touch, move, or attempt to repair the material yourself.
Keep people and pets away from the area.
Contact a licensed asbestos removalist or qualified roofing/building professional to assess and safely manage the damage.

Follow advice from your local council, state health authority, or insurance provider for next steps.

Got a damaged skylight and rain on the way?

A sturdy large umbrella can work as a temporary cover — just anchor it from the inside (hang something heavy) to prevent it from lifting in the wind.

It’s not a long-term fix, but it can help reduce water ingress until proper repairs can be arranged.

Queensland SES - Report an incident 24/11/2025

Did you know you can lodge a request for help from our volunteers with the Queensland SES via our mobile app or on the website?

To help us out, please ensure you provide as much information as possible, upload photos of the damage and a description of the impacted areas and roof type. Please always call your insurance company first and make sure you answer private or unfamiliar numbers. We always call before arranging a team to help you out.

Our volunteers are locals in the area, so we are also impacted by the storm- please be patient and kind! Stay safe 🧡
