The Prison Partner
Former prison partner
Now sharing the journey with others who have someone inside

Joy might not come easily for many of us during this season. Particularly for those feeling lonely, lost or overwhelmed.
So this year instead of a happy or merry Christmas, I'm wishing you a hopeful Christmas.
After all at Christmas, hope came true for those who'd waited years for a Saviour. And Jesus Himself represents hope for all of us. Hope of forgiveness. Of reconciliation. Of a fruitful life now and for eternity.
So if you're hurting, may Christmas fill you with the hope of healing. If you're weary, may it be the hope of rest. If you're sad, may it be the hope of even distant joy.
And may your hopes come true as you welcome Christ into this season.
Have a hopeful Christmas 🎄❤️
A letter from my prison journey self (part 4)
Dear friend,
Please know what I want most is your understanding.
Ask me how my journey is going. Even when I look ok. Even when you worry I'll turn you down. Even when you think I have enough people to talk to.
Sometimes I might not want to talk much. But other times, I might just be longing for that invitation.
Ask me how I feel, what I hope for, what I fear. Ask me how my loved one is going - they're part of my journey too.
If my story doesn't make sense to you, ask instead of filling the blanks with assumptions or advice. You won’t understand me through another show, article or video. I don't need analysis, labels, judgements or fancy terms.
Even if you’ve been on a prison journey yourself, your experience will be different to mine.
Please take time to listen. To learn my story, how it impacts me, and how I’m growing.
You show me you care when you show me I’m heard.
Thank you for being a friend.

On Father's Day
Sending love to those on a prison journey this Father's Day. To those who have lost dads or children to prison. To those separated from their dads by walls, distance, illness or hurt.
Today might not be about celebrating dad, opening presents, sharing lunch together or having a drink. Today might amplify your loneliness, the missed opportunities or how different your life feels from others.
But I hope today you also remember that you're loved. You are precious. And you matter.
Wishing you love this Father's Day.
❤️

Justice reform advocate Phillip Jenkins speaking on Season 1 of the Peaceful Prisons Podcast.

In Season 1, Episode 7, Phillip talks about the challenges he faced in the New South Wales system as someone with a disability and mental health needs, and how he is using his experience to advocate for reform.

Hello! Thank you for visiting 😊
I'm Gabrielle. I'm a second generation Aussie, crafter, fur-mum, introvert and Jesus follower - not necessarily in that order!
I've also been a prison partner.
My time supporting a former spouse through court, prison and reintegration changed my world. It destroyed my social circle, uprooted my home, altered my career path, strained my finances and shattered my normal. There isn't a part of my life that wasn't impacted by that time.
But I survived.
And now I'm sharing my journey to partner with others who have someone inside. The spouses, partners, parents, children, siblings, aunties, uncles, family, friends.
I want you to know you're not alone.
You’ll get through this.

Sending special hugs to mums in prison and mums with children in prison. It's normal if you're feeling the separation particularly hard right now. For many people, Mother's Day can bring up sadness, guilt, anger or many other emotions and memories.
However your day looks, I hope you know you are enough. As long as you're trying, you're doing your best. And you are loved.

'The joy isn’t out there, waiting at the end of the race. The joy is here, in the messy, unpredictable, wonderful moments that make up the journey.'
One of my many favourite quotes from Rusty Pangburn's inspirational book 'Mindset matters', published just this year.
The book weaves together Rusty's story of rediscovering his purpose on the other side of prison, his learnings from the journey, and practical steps to help you reach your potential.
I read the whole book in two days - couldn't put it down - and will reread it many times again I'm sure.
Congratulations on your first publication, Rusty! I hope you'll be celebrating this and all your wins for a long time!
