ππ Insect Week Fun in the Nursery Rooms! ππ
Our Nursery children have been busy getting creative during Insect Week with the help of Miss Pom, who guided the children in creating a wonderful cardboard caterpillar inspired by the much-loved story The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle.
As part of the experience, the children enjoyed listening to the story before exploring hands-on play with their caterpillar creation. Using recycled cardboard boxes and brown paper, the children helped decorate the caterpillar and then practised their fine motor skills by placing different fruits into the holes cut along the side of the caterpillar, just like the hungry caterpillar eating its way through the story! ππππ
This engaging experience promoted:
πΏ Sustainability through the use of recycled and reused materials
π Literacy development by connecting learning to a familiar story
π Early numeracy and cognitive skills as children identified and sorted fruits
β Fine motor development through placing the fruit pieces into the caterpillar
π An understanding of nature and insects during our Insect Week celebrations
This activity beautifully embedded the EYLF (Early Years Learning Framework) outcomes by encouraging children to become involved learners, effective communicators, and active participants in their environment through creative, play-based experiences.
We love seeing our Nursery children using their imaginations, developing new skills, and learning about the world around them through meaningful and sustainable play experiences.

β½Kindy World Cup Excitement!β½
Today, our Kindy children enjoyed watching the FIFA World Cup match between Australia and Paraguay! The children were excited to cheer on the teams, learn about different countries, and experience the excitement of a major sporting event together.
Watching the game provided many valuable learning opportunities, including:
π Learning about the world β discovering where Australia and Paraguay are on a map and exploring different cultures.
π€ Teamwork and cooperation β observing how players work together to achieve a common goal.
π Physical development β discussing the skills athletes use, such as running, coordination, balance, and perseverance.
π¬ Communication and language β sharing ideas, asking questions, and talking about what they could see happening during the match.
π Social and emotional development β learning about sportsmanship, resilience, celebrating success, and coping with disappointment.
The children loved joining in the excitement and were inspired by the players' determination and teamwork. What a wonderful way to connect learning with real-world experiences!
