Minerals Industry Visit 2019
The School of Mechanical and Mining Engineering invite is currently organising the 2019 Minerals Industry Visit to a number of sites in Central Queensland. The visit will take place during the Semester Break (30 Sept – 4 Oct). Participants will fly to Mackay and visit the Longwall repair facilities of Hastings Deering Australia Ltd, then travel inland to lodge at the quintessential outback Nebo Hotel. On the Tuesday the group will visit a dragline operation at BHP’s South Walker Creek and a ruck/shovel operation at BHP’s Poitrel operations. On Wednesday the Group will have the opportunity to travel underground and visit a longwall operation at AngloAmerican’s Moranbah North and Grosvenor mines. The Group will overnight in Middlemount prior to Visiting Anglo’s Lake Lindsey surface mining operations on the Thursday. Time permitting the group will also visit the Gem fields near Emerald for the opportunity to fossick for sapphires. On Friday the group will return to Brisbane via Rockhampton.
Once again the visit is being kindly financially supported by AngloAmerican Metallurgical Coal. This means that there is a reduced cost of $250-$300 per participant for the visit. The visit is open to all students interested in a career in the resources industry, with a preference to 3rd and 4th year mining engineering students who have not previously participated in the minerals industry visit. Numbers are strictly limited, and will be determined on a first-come first served basis. If interested please contact Prof Peter Knights for a copy of the registration form.
