This house is spectacular!

This house is spectacular. The design layout with large open spaces and spectacular views of the ocean made it a wonderful place to stay. With fully equipped kitchen, bedding and super clean bathrooms. A great location just away from the main busselton strip made it nice and quiet without being far from anything. The communication with booking, check in and out and any other queries we had, were always answered promptly and kindly. Amazing amazing experience. Will definitely be back woth the family

We all love whales and can understand the excitement of being in the water with them. But this footage highlights how an often innocent desire for an in water experience with these majestic giants can quickly turn into a distressing interaction for the whales. The rapid turns these animals are making is a clear indication they are trying to avoid the swimmers and paddlers. Humpback whales are largely capital breeders meaning the body fat stores they accumulate in their summer foraging grounds are the primary source of energy for the cow and her calf on the long migratory journey to the calving grounds and back. Every disturbance these animals experience uses up a little bit more of that energy reserve. So these seemingly innocent encounters can actually be detrimental to the health of the cow and her calf that still have a long way to travel to their summer feeding grounds. Please be mindful that even as a swimmer, surfer, kayaker, or paddle boarder, your actions have the potential to impact these animals. Not to mention these are large, wild animals, and getting up close and personal also puts yourself in harms way. Be respectful and admire them from a distance! Swimmers should not approach within 100m of whales. Vessels must maintain 100m from the side and 300m from a 60° arc in front and behind and drones a 60m radius. . . #whales #marinescience #marineresearch

Royalty in the South West ⛴👑

The Crown Princess opened the cruise ship season with 3000 passengers and 1200 crew making landfall and spending the day in the South West.

The vessel stands at nearly 290 metres in length, has 18 decks and is on an 11 day cruise heading to Sydney via Albany, Adelaide, Melbourne and Hobart.

Lisa Shreeve, Busselton Jetty CEO told Stan Shaw on ABC South West Breakfast this year's cruise ship season is expected to the biggest yet.

"26,000 people coming on or off those cruise ships," says Ms Shreeve.

"This year we have nine maiden voyages... that's ships that have never been before and it's growing in popularity because of the variety of things people can do when they get off the ship."

Last year cruise ships bolstered the region's tourism industry, bringing more than 11,000 passengers in total to South West shores.

Ms Shreeve says locals should expect more than double the number of tourists this season.

"There's so much to do in our region and so much variety," she says.

"It's massive for West Australia in general... we're talking hundreds of millions of dollars coming into the state from people spending money when they're going off the ship to buy food, drinks but also retail, the tours they're doing, the transport companies that are providing the buses - it's a huge income boost."

Just now in Geographe Bay

In contrast to last weeks big blue that treated the public to an up close view at the busselton jetty today we sighted this little blue cruising through the bay. Coming in at an estimated 12 to 15 m, this little one was surprisingly alone, suggesting it has either just been weaned or may have lost its mum. Blue whales are big babies, born at 6 to 7 m in length and growing rapidly to 12 m in length by about 4 or 5 months old.
