For all the Yass locals an interesting item coming up in our next sale. Letters and envelopes from this ere were usually one and the same. The pages of a letter were folded into an envelope shape and then sealed at the back. Envelopes of this type are known as an 'Entire' this entire is addressed to a Mr Evans Union Stores Yass. The postage would have been paid by the sender after the article was weighed. Although postage stamps had been around in England for nine years by the time this envelope was sent, stamps for use in NSW did not appear until 1850 a year after this envelope was mailed. The envelope was posted in Sydney in September 1849 a wax seal (which is alas missing) would have sealed the entire.
