The H5N1 strain of avian influenza has been detected in Australia.

Avian influenza can spread among infected birds and other animals and may pose a risk to workers who have contact with infected birds, animals or contaminated materials.

Employers have a duty to manage the risk of exposure to avian influenza.
Our model Code of Practice: Managing the risks of biological hazards at work can help employers identify biological hazards and manage the risks of potential diseases and infections in the workplace.
