Our CEO Samuel Spencer was featured in The Canberra Times this week, discussing the findings from Aristotle Metadata's survey of 170 public service data professionals.

The results paint a sobering picture: one in three public servants do not trust the data their own department holds, and many feel their departments lack the basic discipline needed to manage data well.

"I stand by the fact that if somebody doesn't know what data they've got, they have no hope of protecting it," Sam told The Canberra Times.

The research also points to a clear gap between awareness and action. While most agencies acknowledge the problem, few have the structures in place to fix it.

As government leans further into AI and automation, knowing what data you have, where it lives, and whether you can trust it is no longer optional. It is foundational.
