It was an absolute delight and honour to be part of tonight's cocktail event celebrating the inaugural opening of the Tuvalu High Commission in Canberra, Australia.
We congratulate the Government and people of Tuvalu on this significant milestone and momentous occasion.
Prior to tonight’s event, Hon Prime Minister Feleti Penitala Teo delivered a special address at Lowitja O’Donoghue Cultural Centre, ANU campus.
In his remarks, Prime Minister Teo shared Tuvalu’s powerful story of resilience, highlighting the nation’s adaptation and resilience efforts against climate change impacts and the protection of Tuvalu’s autonomy as a sovereign nation. The highlight of the Prime Minister’s address was the groundbreaking Falepili Treaty - a mobility pathway for Tuvaluans to work and live in Australia. PM Teo acknowledged three other atoll nations with similar challenges - RMI, Kiribati and Maldives.
The High Commission will provide support to the Tuvaluan diaspora communities, students, PALM workers and new migrants across Australia.
The establishment of Tuvalu's first High Commission here is a testament to the growing partnership and the deepening ties between the two nations.
Congratulations again to the Government and people of Tuvalu for this remarkable milestone. Tuvalu mo te Atua.

We honour their enduring connection to this land we now call home and upon which we have reimagined our maneaba—a sacred space of unity, belonging, and celebration.
