Building stronger crops for a changing climate.

Monash University is delighted to welcome Maitri Scholar Swagatam Das from IISER Bhopal, India, who is working with Professor Sureshkumar Balasubramanian from the School of Biological Sciences to develop climate-resilient crops using predictive AI and CRISPR gene-editing technology.

As climate change places increasing pressure on agriculture, the research aims to protect crop yields and improve global food security while strengthening scientific collaboration between Australia and India.

Fellow Maitri Scholar Deepali Singh will begin research in sustainable manufacturing in the Faculty of Engineering.

The researchers are supported through the Maitri Scholarships program, administered by the Centre for Australia India Relations (CAIR).
