Thanks to Creative Industries Minister Vicki Ward MP for Eltham for visiting the Music Victoria office today.

It was great to talk about what's happening across Victoria's music community, the opportunities ahead, and what's needed to sustain the artists, venues, festivals and music businesses that are at the heart of our music ecosystem.

We even managed to compare notes on what gigs we're heading to next 🎶

Our music is not your AI training data.

We've heard loud and clear from artists, songwriters and creators across Victoria: they want their work protected. That work deserves respect.

Right now, big tech companies are lobbying the Australian Government to weaken Australia's copyright laws so they can use Australian creative work to train AI systems without asking permission or paying the people who made it.

If your music is used, you should have the right to choose. You should be asked. You should be paid.

This isn't about stopping innovation. It's about making sure creators aren't left behind as technology evolves.

Music Victoria is standing with our creative industry partners to call on the Australian Government to protect copyright and protect the future of Australian music.
