UNDER CONSTRUCTION - Port Douglas

A recent site visit took Jerry and Camilla from the Victorian winter to the tropics of Far North Queensland.

The challenge: balancing privacy on a beachfront site, while allowing the home to respond naturally to the climate.

The response: a layered envelope of timber screening that mediates sun, outlook and ventilation. Living spaces are arranged around internal courtyards and gardens, creating a home that feels private and protected, yet remains deeply connected to light, landscape and cooling sea breezes.

A contemporary farmhouse grounded in simplicity, permanence and craft. Natural stone & recycled timber create a robust material palette that embeds itself within the landscape.

Robin House - the 3rd in a series of 4 homes designed for

Robin House consciously moved away from the darker tones of Heron House and Wren House, whilst maintaining the core blockwork spine that all 4 homes share as a project anchor, ensuring a robustness in their beach house context.

Thrilled to receive confirmation that Grounded House has been shortlisted in the Australian Interior Design Awards for 2026. Looking forward to seeing how it goes!
A brief, shaped around family life, sits at the heart of the interior design, focusing on spaces that feel practical, durable, and closely connected to the landscape.
Inside, the palette responds to the strength of the concrete and blockwork exterior with a sense of warmth and ease. Spotted gum brings a natural tactility that softens the structure and makes the spaces feel more grounded and comfortable. The result is a home that supports both shared moments and quiet retreat, all while staying closely connected to its surroundings.
