The University of Notre Dame Australia says it will not take new students for its nursing program for another year after it became "oversubscribed in recent years", leaving many in limbo.

An open letter from former Australian of the Year Richard Scolyer to "All Australians" has been released following his death.

The renowned pathologist and melanoma researcher was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer in 2023.

He was given just six-to-eight months to live, but managed to stave off the disease for almost two years with experimental immunotherapy treatment.

In March 2025, Professor Scolyer announced the cancer had returned.
He died on Sunday night, aged 59.

He is survived by his wife and three children.
