Footscray City Rowing Club

This is really sad. In all the years I’ve rowed on the Maribyrnong, I haven’t seen the black swans until their return and it was terrific to see them successfully breed, out swimming on the river with their cygnets.

All this year’s cygnets and parents have now been killed largely due to human carelessness - fishing hooks and now a bike riding too fast on the paths.

The health of this river, its marine and birdlife are a collective responsibility.

Clean up after your fishing activities, if you see plastic, pick it so it doesn’t end up in the water ways and be respectful of our wildlife (don’t let your kids chase the swans and ducks, keep your dogs on your lead).

You don’t appreciate what you have till it’s gone.
