This was a referendum asking us to choose between two impossible and arguably inadequate options. One choice was to give coloniser recognition to the traditional owners of this land in the hope it was a ‘First step’ towards something better. The other choice was split between side with N***s or draw a line in the sand and demand treaty. That line is super fu***ng blurry.

Either way we don’t wake up tomorrow in any more or less of a racist country. Australia is racist AF and we live on stolen land. I also don’t believe that the majority of people voting no did it because they want treaty.

If you chose any option, whether yes or no, that wasn’t siding with n***s then we have work to do. We absolutely have to commit to closing the gap and improving health outcomes for First Nations people. We have to create space for yarning and the healing of a trauma that runs generations deep. The colonial pain inflicted on first nations people isn’t ‘history they need to get over’. There are people living with us who were stolen from community and country. There are people living with us who look white because of targeted government eugenics programs to ‘breed out the black’. There are people living with us who aren’t represented in local, state, or federal government because they are neither citizens or migrants. We need to use our elbows to make a path then step the f**k aside to give First Nations people A Voice.

October is Sexual Violence Awareness Month. I've been fairly quiet on social media lately but super busy behind the scenes. Last week I facilitated the panel discussion at the Start By Believing Community Breakfast. Next week we are holding the annual Reclaim The Night Rally down at Broadwater Parklands. At the end of the month, I'm presenting at the Sexology In Practice Symposium in Adelaide along with Dr Tessa Opie from .co and Vanessa Hamilton from . Tess and I have also launched a new company together so stay tuned for more details!!

This month for SVAM we've been asking people to commit to to lead the change to end sexual violence. My action is to be more present on social media and use my voice and privilege to call out misogyny and discrimination. There are a lot of things I dislike about social media so I try to avoid it but many of the things I don't like are also things that I can't ignore if I want to be a part of meaningful social change.

What a weekend!
