Smoke alarms save lives 🔥. By 1 January 2027, all homes in Queensland must have interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms installed in bedrooms, hallways, and every storey. Interconnected smoke alarms detect smoke faster, and when one smoke alarm goes off, all alarms in the house are activated giving everyone time to escape in the event of a fire.

Queensland is transitioning to new smoke alarm legislation. It requires all homes to have interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms installed in bedrooms and other locations by 1 January 2027. Under the new legislative requirements, homes will be required to have smoke alarms installed where when one smoke alarm goes off, all alarms in the house are activated giving everyone extra time to escape in the event of a house fire.
