One of the biggest shifts in my business happened while I was helping a client order her business cards.
She was overwhelmed by the online ordering process, so I popped over to her place to help. While I clicked through the checkout, we were chatting about business, and I mentioned an idea I'd been sitting on.
I had already decided I wouldn't launch it for a while. I had this timeline in my head that felt sensible.
She looked at me and asked, "Why are you waiting?"
I already had the skills. I already had the experience. I already knew I could deliver the service.
The only thing standing in my way was a deadline I'd invented for myself.
She challenged me to stop hiding behind it. To stop playing small. To take up space instead of waiting until I felt "ready."
Two months later, I launched the offer.
The funny thing is, nothing magical happened in those two months.
I didn't become more experienced. I didn't gain some secret qualification. I didn't wake up feeling fearless.
The only thing that changed was my willingness to begin.
I've thought about that conversation so many times since, because I think we all create imaginary milestones that make us feel safe.
Sometimes the thing that's really holding us back isn't a lack of skill.
It's waiting for permission that was never needed in the first place...
