Today is World Day Against Child Labour an important reminder that every child

deserves the right to learn, play and grow safely, free from exploitation.

Globally, 160 million children are still trapped in child labour. That's 160 million childhoods cut short.

On this day, we reaffirm our commitment to a world where children are in classrooms, not workplaces, and where adults have access to decent, fair work that supports their families.

Two years ago, the Liberal Government promised Tasmania an additional 50 police officers.

They broke that promise.

Now local councils are being forced to pick up the slack, spending tens of thousands of dollars on private security just to keep communities safe.

In Launceston alone, ratepayers are footing a bill of around $30,000 every month for security services. That’s money that should be going into local roads, parks and community facilities, not covering for a Government that failed to deliver on its policing commitments.
