I finally found time to complete a little project for myself - my dream home office!

I didn't want to break the budget so I used construction plywood for the cabinetry, painted black for the carcasses and stained and varnished for the doors and bookshelves.

I made a floating desk out of old slabs of huon pine that I jointed to get the right width and then stained with the same merbau varnish as the cabinet. Shallow under-desk drawers hold my stationary and I got it to float by attaching to the wall and to the cabinet on the left, giving me unobstructed leg room underneath.

I made a false wall out of some walnut acoustic panelling which allowed me to mount my monitor on the wall and run all the cabling out of sight. I'll be replacing my mouse and keyboard sometime with bluetoothed ones to make the desk completely wire free :)

Today's #wip - a custom built garden arbour.

My customer wanted a relaxing spot to read a book and enjoy the afternoon sun. I used tenon joints and routed grooves to create super strong lattice panels, which I assembled with biscuits joints and pocket holes to hide any fixings for a seamless finish. The seat is hinged to provide convenient cushion storage. Now it just needs to be sanded, weathered and sealed. 28/12/2024
