SOMETIMES THE HARDEST GOODBYES ARE THE ONES WE NEVER SEE COMING.

A familiar lap. A favourite bed. A lifetime of love. Then, in an instant, everything changes.

When their elderly owner entered a nursing home, three little dogs suddenly found themselves without the only home they had ever known. Through no fault of their own, they are now waiting for someone to give them a second chance.

Today we’d love you to meet Toby.

Toby is a 3-4 year old Maltese Shih Tzu with a heart every bit as big as his smile. If happiness had four legs and a wagging tail, it would be Toby.

He wakes up every day excited to see the world. Whether he’s going for a walk, playing with his friends or simply spending time with his people, Toby brings joy wherever he goes.

He’s a wonderfully well-mannered little fellow too. Toby is toilet trained, walks beautifully on a lead, is friendly and social, and loves being part of everyday family life. He is vaccinated, microchipped, up to date with his worming, and will be desexed this week, so he’ll be ready to begin the next chapter of his life.

There is just one more thing we’d love to tell you, Toby has a best friend.

His name is Bronson, a delightful five-year-old Fox Terrier × Chihuahua. The two boys share a special bond and have been through this enormous life change together.

Our greatest wish would be for Toby and Bronson to find a home together.

We know that’s a big ask.

We know it’s easier to adopt one dog than two.

But just imagine how wonderful it would be if they never had to say goodbye to each other as well.

After losing everything familiar, perhaps they could at least keep the friendship that has helped them through it all.

Not because they stopped loving you, but because life took them somewhere they could no longer take you.

Just recently, Mackay Pet Rescue Inc. stepped in to help three beautiful little dogs after their elderly owner entered a nursing home. It is one of those heartbreaking situations that nobody plans for, yet it happens far more often than people realise.

Today, we’d like you to meet Shelby.

Shelby is an eight-year-old Cocker Spaniel with the sweetest, gentlest soul you could hope to meet. She isn’t looking for adventure or excitement. She’s looking for what she’s always known, a safe home, a comfy bed, and someone to love.

Cocker Spaniels are famous for their affectionate, loyal nature. They thrive on human companionship and form incredibly strong bonds with their families. Shelby is no exception. She simply wants to be close to her person, whether that’s following you around the house, relaxing at your feet, or, if you’ll allow it… sneaking onto the bed for a cuddle. (Let’s be honest, who could say no to that face?)

Shelby is desexed, fully vaccinated, microchipped and up to date with her worming. She is toilet trained, well behaved, walks beautifully on a lead, and has lovely manners around the home. She’s ready to settle straight into a family that will treasure her.

She gets along well with other dogs, but truthfully, she’d be just as happy spending her days quietly by your side.

We know Shelby can’t go back to the home she’s lost. But together, we can help her find a new one.

A place where she will once again feel safe.
A place where she will be cherished.
A place where she can spend her senior years knowing she is loved beyond measure.
