Kell Green - Website Designer
Hey mate! Iām Kell.

(Am I posting a non-Waffle reel AND posting on the day I said I would? Who even am I?!)
(PS. My sincerest apologies to *everyone* using a screenreader for this caption. š
)
Alright, so I love giving text this design treatment.. *but* there's a right way and a wrong way of doing it.
This is the style I'm talking about:
H E A D I N G
However, users with eyesight issues use a tool called a screen reader, and depending on your chosen method, that screen reader will either read this text as...
"H. E. A. D. I. N. G." (reading it letter-by-letter)
or "heading" (reading it as a word)
Basically, when a screen reader sees all capital letters, it delivers that word like an acronym. (eg. ASAP)
There are two ways to achieve this effect, but one is right, and one is wrong. Let's take a look at them!
ā The wrong way to do it:
Use all capital letters and add spaces with your keyboard to create gaps between the letters.
ā
The right way to do it:
Usually, this treatment is applied to headings, right? So let's pretend my above example uses a H2 tag.
In your CSS code, you would add:
h2 {
text-transform: uppercase;
letter-spacing: 10px;
}
Just in case you didn't read through the text on the carousel, this CSS tells the browser:
- All text on the page with 'h2' (heading 2) used needs to have this styling applied
- 'text-transform' tells the text to display as all uppercase letters
- 'letter-spacing' tells the text to display with a 10 pixel gap between each letter
By the way - this doesn't just apply to that 'spaced out' letters treatment. It applies *every time* you use consecutive capital letters!
Web accessibility is something that is *very* important to me, and I love sharing ways that can ensure your content is seen by everyone who comes across it.

Oh heeeeey! Where the heck have I been?
*I've Been Everywhere by Johnny Cash plays in the distance*
Family time, being sad about super rubbish rainy days that felt like they'd never go away, some sickness, finishing my copywriting project with Dan at Readcity for my website copy, *planning* new services, client work, part-time job, doomscrolling...
Everywhere but here, basically. š¤·š»āāļø
Anyway, now I need to put some headphones on and focus. Less 'planning' and start doing. Ya know what I mean?
Speaking of doing - if you know someone who's looking for a website redesign or build in the coming months (including yourself), let me know.
New services and testing processes equal some niiice discounts for the lucky takers. š

I set an hour timer to create the graphic and write this caption, because I didn't want to overdo it.
Not even kidding. š
(the logic worked š)
My March was all over the shop. I had grand plans to showcase the wonderful women in my life, and then I hit pause.
My OG cat and bestie, Zutsuki took a sudden turn in the first week of March, and 3 hours after her consult, she was put to sleep. š¤
My MacBook, a gift to myself for starting a new business, (and purchased with my redundancy payment, what a kick in the guts š«), decided it didn't wanna live without me spending more money than I had available to fix it. Cool cool cool cool cooooool.
I had a whirlwind trip to Brisbane to shoot the final workout of the 2024 CrossFit Open at my old second home, CrossFit TARIS. Loved that part. (Looking at the photos now though, the shots were missing a lot of the life I usually find in its wonderful members..)
Lexi finished her first term of Prep! I'm so proud of her, she took to "big school" like it was nothing new to her. š„°
Got cracking on my voice guide with Readcity, too. Again, a massive positive. āØ
And seeing Pink in Townsville was an absolute party. š„³ Gambling on a North Queensland stadium absolutely paid off, I can't wait to see more shows up here in the future. š¤š»
ā
Buuuut the rest of the month, I let all the negative stuff take control.. and I was beyond tired. ā
ā
It was absolutely a run of s**t luck, I'm sure we can all agree, but now, the new month has kicked in and it's time to get back on track. š
