🎓 Are you planning to claim five points for Australian study in your Expression of Interest?
Before claiming the points, make sure your study meets the Australian Study Requirement.

Your study generally needs to involve an eligible degree, diploma or trade qualification awarded by an Australian educational institution. The course or combination of courses must be CRICOS registered and completed in Australia over at least 16 calendar months.

The study must also amount to at least two academic years, which is generally equivalent to 92 weeks of registered study.

One important detail is that the study used to claim these points does not necessarily have to be related to your nominated occupation. However, you must meet the relevant requirements when you receive an invitation to apply.

Incorrectly claiming points may affect your visa application. It is important to check your course duration, qualifications and supporting evidence before updating your EOI.

📢 Planning to study in Australia in 2027? Important changes are coming.

Australia’s international student planning level will remain at 295,000 new commencements in 2027, the same as in 2026.

However, future students should be aware of several changes affecting course allocations, visa fees and processing arrangements.

From 2027, the Australian Tertiary Education Commission will oversee how international student places are allocated to higher education providers, while the Australian Government will continue to set the overall planning level.

Student and Temporary Graduate visa charges have also increased by 25%. Lower Student visa fees will apply to certain eligible students, including those from ASEAN countries, the Pacific and Timor-Leste, as well as eligible ELICOS and non-award course students.

Priority visa processing will continue for eligible Pacific, Timor-Leste and Australian Government scholarship students. International VET courses will not receive a fixed allocation, with growth instead managed through visa processing and integrity measures.

Your Australian study journey involves more than choosing a course. Early planning can help you better understand the costs, visa requirements and options available to you.

Thinking about sponsoring a skilled worker through the Subclass 186 Direct Entry stream?

Employers must meet several requirements before a nomination can be approved.

The business must be actively and lawfully operating in Australia, have a satisfactory compliance record and demonstrate a genuine need for a paid skilled employee. The position must be within the business’s own operations and under its direct control—not hired out to an unrelated business through a labour-hire arrangement.

The employer must also offer a full-time, ongoing position for at least two years, pay at least the applicable Annual Market Salary Rate, demonstrate the financial capacity to pay the proposed salary and pay the Skilling Australians Fund levy when lodging the nomination.

A genuine position and a compliant business are essential to a strong nomination.
