Coin toning generally occurs naturally over time. It is due to the oxygen or sulfur reacting on the coin's metal. It is purely based on the environment in which the coin is. However, the toning process can be accelerated by the heat, moisture, and a variety of other chemicals in the environment.

What is Mylar you ask?

Mylar or BoPET ( Biaxially-oriented polyethylene terephthalate) is a polyester film made from stretched polyethylene terephthalate (PET).

We use Mylar bags for many reasons; to create an environment for coin preservation.

* Its strong
* Excellent dimensional stability
* Transparent
* Superior UV light resistance
* Good optical clarity
* Low moisture absorption
* Good thermal stability over a wide temperature range
* Chemically inert (it will not break down and cause harmful gases that react with your coins, like other plastics)

At Encapsulate coin capsules, we strive to ensure your coins are safe for years to come when using our storage methods.
