NAIDOC Week 2026 celebrates 50 Years of Deadly - marking the milestone of five decades of honouring and strengthening First Nations voices, culture, and achievements.

NAIDOC began as a grassroots movement for justice and equality and evolved into a nationwide celebration of the culture, history and achievements of First Nations people.

SecondBite is proud to celebrate with First Nations peoples this week and is committed to working together to help address the disproportionately high levels of food insecurity experienced by their communities.

Through our Meals for the Mob Program, we support communities with fresh produce and ready-to-eat meals from our FareShare kitchens. The program works with First Nations communities to improve access to nutritious food in a way that is respectful and responsive to local needs.

We remain committed to listening and learning as we walk alongside communities with respect and a shared commitment to improving food security for First Nations peoples.

It’s a big news day at SecondBite.

Thanks to a $5 million investment from the Victorian Government, SecondBite is expanding our new Derrimut distribution centre, significantly strengthening our ability to rescue and redistribute food to communities across the state.

As our CEO Daniel Moorfield said today: “This investment is a game changer for food relief across Victoria.”

So, while we continue to see demand increase, over the next decade this expansion will:
• Triple our food relief capacity to 100 million meal equivalents
• Double our support to regional Victoria
• Reach an additional 316,000 households experiencing food insecurity.

We’re incredibly grateful to the Victorian Government and Luba Grigorovitch MP for backing this expansion and helping us build a stronger, more sustainable food relief system for the future.
