Afar People’s Party (APP) Statement on January 30th Drone Strikes Against Afar Pastoralist Civilians.
2nd February,2025
Afar Semera,Ethiopia
The Afar People’s Party (APP) vehemently condemns the January 30th drone strikes conducted by the Djibouti air force against innocent Afar pastoralist civilians in Seyaru Kebele, Elidear Woreda, Ethiopia. This blatant act of aggression is not only unacceptable but constitutes a severe violation of international law, which mandates the protection of civilian lives during conflicts.
We are deeply saddened to report that many civilian citizens including women and children have lost their lives as a result of these strikes, while countless others are now grappling with the dire consequences of insecurity and a pervasive lack of safety. The APP has been actively working to uncover the circumstances surrounding this tragic event and to hold accountable those responsible for this heinous act.
The repeated nature of such attacks raises alarming questions about the safety and security of the Afar people. It is imperative that the Ethiopian government and its Djiboutian counterparts provide a thorough explanation to the people of Afar and the broader region regarding the motivations and justifications behind these strikes. The Afar community deserves transparency and accountability, especially in light of the escalating violence that threatens our existence and well-being.
We call upon the African Union (AU) and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) to intervene urgently and decisively to protect the rights and safety of the Afar people against this foreign aggression. The time for action is now; we must prevent further loss of life and ensure that the dignity and rights of every citizen are upheld.
The APP stands firm in its commitment to advocate for peace, justice, and the protection of our people. We will not rest until the voices of the Afar people are heard and their rights are recognized. Together, we must strive for a future where all communities can coexist in safety and harmony.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Statement on Allegations of Aggression by Ogaden National Liberation Front and Somali Regional State Government
Afar ,Samara,21.08.2024- The Afar People's Party (APP) strongly condemns the allegations made by the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) and the Somali Regional State Government regarding the alleged invasion of the Somali region by Afar forces. These claims are baseless and unfounded, aiming to tarnish the reputation of the Afar people and their legitimate rights.
It is important to clarify that the current aggression being witnessed in the region is perpetrated by the Somali regional state paramilitary forces against innocent Afar pastoralists residing in the hinterland of the Afar region. These attacks are carried out with the intent to unlawfully expand the Somali region towards Afar territory, disregarding regional autonomy and territorial integrity.
The APP strongly condemns the aggressive actions taken by the Somali regional forces against innocent civilians in the areas of Hanruka, Kilalu, Yangudi, Ada Ado, and the entire south and eastern zones of the region. Disturbing reports have emerged, documenting instances where these forces, with the support of other countries, have caused severe damage to villages, raided animals, and tragically killed women and children. Such acts of aggression and violence are deplorable and must be met with swift action and accountability.
The APP firmly upholds the principles of regional autonomy and territorial integrity, recognizing the rights of all communities to live in peace and harmony. We call upon the relevant authorities and federal government bodies to investigate these allegations thoroughly and hold those responsible for the loss of lives and property accountable for their actions.
We urge the international community all Ethiopians in general and the Somali Community in particular to intervene in this critical situation, ensuring the protection of innocent civilians and the preservation of regional stability. It is imperative that the rights of the Afar people are respected, and the aggressors are held accountable for their violations.
The APP remains committed to promoting dialogue, peaceful coexistence, and the fair resolution of disputes. We stand united in defending the rights and well-being of the Afar people and call upon all parties involved to engage in constructive dialogue to resolve the current crisis.
