Dear the 'Pigeon Rescue Melbourne' community,

Today, with tears in our eyes but love in our hearts, we are saying goodbye and closing this chapter of our lives.

For the past almost 7 years, our team has served the community and helped hundreds of pigeons. It is something we have loved doing, and our hearts are full knowing that so many lives were saved through our combined efforts.

'Pigeon Rescue Melbourne' was founded and run by a team of passionate pigeon lovers, operating across multiple shelters with the help of foster carers and transporters. Over the years, members of our team have moved on - whether due to careers, family commitments, or relocation. For the past two years, PRM has condensed down to a single shelter and has been primarily run by one person.

This is no longer feasible. Requests for help continue to come from all over Victoria, while adoptions have remained limited. For the wellbeing of the pigeons currently in care, the difficult but necessary decision has been made to close 'Pigeon Rescue Melbourne' as an organisation.

The pigeons at the remaining shelter are currently undergoing treatment for illness and are under veterinary care. Sadly, we have lost a number of birds, which has been devastating. We continue to work closely with our veterinary team to investigate the root cause; however, we are no longer financially or physically able to continue the work of PRM.

This decision has been incredibly difficult, but it has been made with the agreement of all original founding members and our current shelter.

We would like to sincerely thank:
- Our followers, who supported us on social media and through donations of food and funds
- All transporters, foster carers, and veterinarians who dedicated their time and care to our pigeons
- Our founders, for many years of hard work in rehabilitation and care
- Our friends, for their unwavering support during both the good and challenging times
- Our adopters, for choosing a pigeon as a forever family member
- The public, for looking out for and reporting pigeons in need of help

If you require assistance with a pigeon, please contact:
Freckles Fellowship Pigeon Rescue
Peanuts Pigeon Project(Ballarat only rescue)
Warratyekin Pigeon Loft & Rescue

We will continue to care for the birds already in care and for the time being our email and adoption forms will remain open for those looking to bring a pigeon into their homes.

In the coming weeks a few post will be made for the birds needing homes still including one of our founders birds.

Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for the years of support shown to 'Pigeon Rescue Melbourne'.

Signing off for the last time as PRM,
Angus, Kirsten, Andrew, Zac, & Lars.

Bandaid is looking for a home 🏡

Meet Bandaid 🕊️✨
Bandaid’s story begins with a kind stranger. She was dropped off at a Melbourne bird vet as a squeaker by a caring member of the public after being found with a small wound under her wing. Wanting to help, they gently placed a bandage on her injury and that sweet act of kindness is exactly how she got her name.
Once a quiet little pigeon, Bandaid has recently discovered her big girl voice, and she’s very proud of it. These days she practises her coos daily, filling the room with gentle pigeon chatter as she learns just how expressive she can be. And just to make it official Bandaid is a confirmed girl, thanks to a DNA test. 🎀

One of Bandaid’s greatest loves in life is her mirror. You’ll often find her sitting close, softly cooing and keeping company with the very pretty pigeon looking back at her. But watch out! If anyone gets a little too close to her mirror friend, Bandaid will bravely show off her pecking skills.

She’s a curious soul who enjoys watching the world around her and investigating new sights at her own pace. Bandaid is still shy of hands and prefers to admire humans from a respectful distance, but her bravery shines when something important needs defending especially that mirror.

With patience, kindness, and an understanding home, Bandaid will continue to grow into her voice and her confidence. She’s a gentle, quirky pigeon with a big heart and would suit a home with a pigeon boyfriend to share her days with, or the freedom to fly among a flock of friends in a safe outdoor aviary. 🕊️

Spray and Seeb are looking for a home! 🏡

Two human-friendly pigeons.
Two backstories.
One braincell (shared, often on strike).

Meet Spray and Seeb (with a b).

Seeb had a rough start to life. His parents fed him seed before he was ready (hence the name), so he spent his early months being cared for by his human. He often accompanied them to work. Despite his claims, he is not authorised to drive a forklift.

Spray (government name: Spray Bottle) was named after a cheap Bunnings spray bottle, because that’s the exact sound she made as a child. She loves gently preening her human and low-key judging her boyfriend.

Spray and Seeb will stare at you from their designated spot (your bathroom sink) until you run them a bath (also in your bathroom sink). If you take Seeb somewhere, Spray will follow. A more reliable transport system than Yarra Trams.

These two are in love, so they come as a package deal. Perfect for someone who thinks:
"I love pigeons, but I hate how smart they are."

Henrietta is available for adoption! 🏡
A tame spotty, raised from a one-day-old rescue, Henrietta loves being around people and nibbling fingers. If you want a quiet little friend who just wants to be indoors with humans, Henrietta may be the one for you.
