Our Nursery Two children have been celebrating NAIDOC Week through meaningful art and craft experiences that honour Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures while embracing sustainable practices.

Using recycled and natural materials, the children explored different textures, colours, and creative techniques to create unique artworks inspired by Country. These experiences encouraged curiosity, creativity, and a growing appreciation for caring for our environment, while introducing children to the importance of respecting and celebrating the world’s oldest continuing cultures.

Through hands-on exploration, our youngest learners are beginning to build connections with nature, sustainability, and the rich histories and traditions of First Nations peoples. We are proud to support children’s understanding of belonging, respect, and caring for Country from an early age.

Our Toddler Two children have been discovering the beauty of creating with natural resources as they explored the fine art of nature-based learning.

Using leaves, sticks, seed pods, bark and other treasures collected from the environment, the children experimented with textures, patterns, colours and shapes, expressing their creativity while developing fine motor skills, problem-solving abilities and an appreciation for the natural world.

These hands-on experiences encourage curiosity, imagination and meaningful conversations about caring for our environment, helping children build a strong connection with nature through play.

Learning through nature is a wonderful way to inspire creativity, nurture wellbeing and foster a lifelong respect for the world around us.

Our Toddler One children have been immersed in meaningful learning as they celebrated NAIDOC Week through hands-on experiences that encouraged curiosity, connection, and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.

One of our favourite experiences invited the children to match Indigenous symbols with real-life photographs, helping them develop a deeper understanding of what each symbol represents across Australia. Using authentic images supported the children in making meaningful connections between the symbols and the landscapes, animals, and elements they see in the world around them.

Throughout the week, the children also explored a variety of Australian native and Indigenous animals within their play spaces, sparking conversations about the unique wildlife that calls Australia home. They enjoyed sharing stories together through a beautiful collection of Australian and First Nations books, creating opportunities to learn about Country, culture, and the rich histories that have been passed down through storytelling for thousands of years.

By engaging in play, exploration, and shared conversations, our toddlers are developing an appreciation for the cultures, knowledge, and traditions of the world’s oldest continuing cultures, while building a strong sense of belonging and respect for the diverse community we live in.

Celebrating 50 Years of NAIDOC Week

We kicked off our NAIDOC Week celebrations with a bang in our Toddler 2 room!

To celebrate 50 years of NAIDOC, our children created a beautiful sustainable artwork inspired by the Indigenous seasons. Using recycled and natural materials, the children explored the importance of caring for Country while learning that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples have understood and lived in harmony with the changing seasons for tens of thousands of years.

This meaningful experience encouraged creativity, sparked conversations about sustainability, and helped our children develop a deeper appreciation for the rich cultures, knowledge, and traditions of Australia’s First Nations Peoples.
