NAIDOC Week 2026 - 50 Years Deadly

Modbury High School acknowledges NAIDOC Week 2026, taking place during the school holidays from 5th to 12th July. This year’s theme, "50 Years Deadly", recognises 50 years of celebrating and honouring the achievements, culture, and heritage of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Although our school will not host activities during the break, we encourage our community to take the opportunity to learn more, participate in local events, and reflect on the important contributions of First Nations peoples.
We look forward to continuing our commitment to reconciliation and cultural understanding throughout the school year.

Today, our Year 7 students were excited to welcome local Member for Newland, , back to Modbury High School as part of our Year 7 Election Day Learning Expedition.

The focus of today's visit was a campaign feedback workshop, with students presenting the election campaigns they have been developing in response to community issues identified during their Tea Tree Plaza fieldwork. Olivia provided valuable feedback and advice to help students strengthen their campaign messages and speeches, alongside some of our Year 8 students who were successful candidates during our Election Day last year.

Students will now put this feedback into action as they prepare for next week's class elections, where each class will vote to determine the political party that will represent them at our Election Day in Week 1, Term 3. The successful parties will then campaign before special guests including Minister for Education Lucy Hood MP, Federal Member for Makin Tony Zappia MP and the Mayor of Tea Tree Gully, Marijka Ryan, before students cast their votes in a full preferential election conducted in partnership with the Electoral Commission of South Australia (ECSA).

A huge thank you to Olivia Savvas MP and our Year 8s for once again generously supporting our students and helping inspire the next generation of informed and active citizens!
