Is castor oil actually doing anything for lipoedema, or is it the massage?
Dr Glenn Murray (AHPRA Registration: MED0001196978) breaks down what the evidence actually says about this popular home remedy.
There are currently no clinical studies showing castor oil has any measurable effect on lipoedema tissue. The relief people notice is more likely coming from the massage technique itself, not the oil.
What may actually help manage lipoedema:
Lymphatic drainage massage, which supports fluid movement through the lymphatic system
Compression therapy, which helps control swelling between treatments
Vaser (ultrasound-assisted) liposuction, designed to remove lipoedema fat while aiming to preserve surrounding lymphatic and vascular structures
Renuvion (J Plasma), often used alongside liposuction to support skin tightening
Lipoedema is a progressive condition with no cure, but proper assessment can help guide the right management plan.
