You might be hearing the term "functional evidence" a lot lately when people talk about the NDIS. But what does it actually mean for your child? 💙In simple terms, the NDIS doesn't just want to know a diagnosis; they want to know how that diagnosis impacts your child's everyday life. Can they get dressed independently? How do they handle a trip to the noisy supermarket? What happens when their routine changes?"Functional evidence" is the proof of these daily challenges. It’s the reports from therapists, but it’s also your own records and observations. The clearer picture we can paint of your child's day-to-day reality, the better equipped we are to advocate for the right supports. We're here to help you build that picture.

Here is what usually happens after a behaviour support plan is submitted:

The plan arrives. It gets filed. Someone puts it in a folder. The support workers are told it exists. Nobody explains what it means. Nobody demonstrates the strategies. Nobody checks back in to see if anything has changed.

So the support worker does what any reasonable person does with a 47-page document they've never been trained on: they ignore it and do their best.

The participant keeps having the same hard days. And you keep wondering why the referral didn't land.

Behaviour Bridge trains the team in person. We don't leave until the strategies are being used.

The NDIS system rewards the existence of a plan.

Not whether it works.

Not whether anyone read it.

Not whether the support workers know what to do.

Just: does it exist? Yes? Great. Funded.

We think that's a problem worth fixing.

While you were waiting for the plan to be approved, the participant had another incident.

While you were waiting for the practitioner to have capacity, the SIL provider started asking questions.

While you were waiting for the system to move, the situation got harder.

Behaviour Bridge doesn't make you wait.

The plan was written. The invoice was sent. The funding was claimed.

And the frontline support workers have never been trained on a single strategy in it.

This is not a one-off. It is the standard operating procedure for a significant portion of the PBS sector and the NDIS Commission does not check whether anyone is actually using the plan it just approved.

You deserve a practitioner who considers the job done when the strategies are working. Not when the document is submitted.
