Keeping Pilates exercises simple and functional is key to helping clients build efficient, adaptable movement patterns. Instead of focusing on fancy moves, emphasize mastering the basics and progressively challenging the body in practical ways.
• Start with foundational Pilates exercises that teach efficient movement patterns. These form the building blocks for strength, control, and coordination.
• Challenge clients by changing their body position: seated, high kneeling, four-point kneeling, standing, and side-lying. This variation helps develop balance and control in different contexts.
• Modify resistance by changing spring tension—go heavier or lighter. Let's promote adaptability in our clients.
• Life's movements are rarely perfectly bilateral or confined to the sagittal plane.
Include unilateral exercises and movements in multiple planes to improve functional strength and coordination.
• Even if you're 'advanced' start with shorter lever movements and gradually increase lever length to build strength and control safely.
