50 Years Deadly – Celebrating Together at Moort Dandjoo!

Today our Moort Dandjoo (Family Together) Playgroup came together to celebrate NAIDOC Week 2026 – 50 Years Deadly, celebrating the strength, resilience and rich cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It was a wonderful morning filled with connection, laughter and learning.

Families enjoyed sharing kangaroo stew and damper, delicious cupcakes, storytelling, face painting and creating beautiful handprint artwork together. Most importantly, children, parents, grandparents and carers had the opportunity to yarn, connect and celebrate culture in a warm and welcoming environment.

At Meerilinga, we believe that parents are a child's first teachers, and Moort Dandjoo provides a safe and supportive space where families can build friendships, strengthen community connections and learn together.

Not at Meerilinga! Our indoor space has been providing a great area for our children to play and learn throughout Makuru, the Noongar name for the wettest and coldest time of the year. Redeveloped in 2025 thanks to the support of the City of Cockburn, our Centre still looks like new with fresh paint, upgraded privacy window screening, improved internal lighting and more!
