While Nirvana were masters at taking pop melodies and making them sound bleak, brutal and beautiful, Courtney seemed to disregard melody entirely – particularly on Hole’s Pretty on the Inside – instead zeroing in on raw emotions and hurling them at the sky, like a wolf howling at the full moon. To me, that was far more compelling to listen to.

Over the years, though, people have relished trash talking Courtney Love. While Kurt Cobain has long been heralded as an icon of our times, Courtney has been painted as a villain, arguably for the exact same reasons. Her history of drug addiction has been scrutinized, her abilities as a mother questioned, her erratic public behavior ridiculed and her marriage to Kurt and even his subsequent death treated as proof that she’s nothing more than a willful opportunist.

She’s done everything that male musicians are often romanticized and celebrated for, but instead she’s been painted by the media as a kind of one-dimensional, psychopathic caricature. Always wild, forever unruly and stubbornly unapologetic for it, Courtney’s mere existence has proved divisive, her and Hole’s musical output often falling by the wayside in the process.

A nostalgic evening straight out of the early '90s festival archives. Join us for a night of pure nostalgia at one of Perth City's best venues, The Rechabite.

THE RECHABITE HALL will host live tribute performances from some of the most iconic bands of the '90s, including:

R.E.M. (Orange Crush - REM Tribute)
HOLE ( Miss Violet - Hole Tribute)
SMASHING PUMPKINS (Mashing Potatoes)
NIRVANA (Frances Farmer's Revenge)

Adding to the vibe, musical support will come from DJ AYE JAMES, co-founder of Pleasures.

In celebration some limited edition Band Tour Merch with Pleasures to commemorate this Anniversary Event that will be available on the night!.

Up on HELLO ROOFTOP, the '90s celebration continues with DJs spinning an eclectic mix of classic tracks from R&B, Hip-Hop, Rare Groove, Trip-Hop, and Deep House. Featuring Low End Therapy DJs, Cue, and Ephacy.

To make this night even more special, The Rechabite's DOUBLE RAINBOW will be serving up delicious BBQ eats from a Rooftop open-air grill, bringing the ultimate summer vibe.

GOODWILL CLUB BASEMENT goes Silent Disco featuring Playlist's from Pleasures and Highs and Lows musical archives.

As part of the “ONE NIGHT ONLY” experience, HIGHS & LOWS are excited to present a special collaboration with Doom Juice. Zachary Godbolt, co-owner and winemaker of Doom Juice, will be pouring their signature Fizz and Juices all night long.

Additionally, Shelter Brewery will have an easy-access can bar, featuring both classic and new brews.
