From learning how to hold a paintbrush to creating three pieces of work for the Art Without Limits exhibition, MSWA Client, Leanne learned firsthand the power of art 🎨

"I didn't want to get out of bed, I didn't want to do anything ... I was going downhill big time."

Thanks to her MSWA Counsellor she was introduced to painting to help with her mental health.

"Art is part of my therapy, for my enjoyment."

This week's local legend is artist Leanne Green.

Diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2019, her life was changed forever.

In the years since, she's gone from struggling to pick up a paintbrush, to having three of her works showcased at the ongoing Art Without Limits exhibition, currently featured at Bunbury's Stirling Street Arts Centre.

She credits support from MSWA and her counsellor for getting her into painting.

"I thought 'this is doing my head in' and reached out to them," Ms Green said.

"I didn't want to get out of bed, I didn't want to do anything ... I was going downhill big time."

Sean, her counsellor, was a painter himself, and suggested she look into art.

"He showed me different techniques and how to hold a brush," she said.

"I do it as part of my therapy, for my enjoyment."

She said the work connected her with others dealing with an MS diagnosis.

"Being able to hear other people's stories [helped]," Ms Green said.

"Outreach is amazing; [MS] is not a life sentence, I've got so much more to learn."

The exhibition runs until May 30.
