Who knew potatoes could grow hair?

Today our clever Wardongs became little scientists as they created their very own Chia Potato People! 🥔

Before we even got our hands messy, we gathered together to make predictions and hypotheses. Would our potatoes grow long green hair? Flowers? Or would nothing happen at all? The children shared some wonderfully imaginative ideas as we explored what living things need to grow and survive.

After decorating their cups and giving their potato people their own unique personalities (complete with some very expressive faces!), it was time for the messiest part…painting on the chia seeds! Safe to say there were plenty of giggles as chia seeds ended up on our clothes, in our hair and even escaped into the garden. We might have a few surprise sprouts popping up around Wardong! 🌱😂

Now the waiting game begins! Over the coming days we’ll be observing, predicting, recording changes and caring for our new little friends as we discover the fascinating life cycle of plants together.

We can’t wait to watch their “hair” grow! 💚

What’s for lunch in Wardong today?

There were plenty of giggles when the children discovered our spaghetti wasn’t yellow… it was black!

The children carefully helped our little friends “eat” by feeding strands of wool through a cardboard tube, strengthening their fine motor muscles, hand/eye coordination and problem solving skills as they watched the spaghetti magically disappear into their tummies. There were lots of excited cries of, “It’s slurping it up!” and “I did it!” as the children persevered and discovered how to make the spaghetti move.

Sometimes the simplest experiences create the best learning opportunities. Today was filled with curiosity, laughter, persistence and plenty of wonderfully unusual black spaghetti! 🖤🍝

What a fantastic first week of the school holidays it’s been! ☀️ We’ve been lucky with the beautiful weather and have packed the week full of fun experiences, smiles and laughter.

Now it’s time to get excited for Week 2! 🎉 We still have a few casual places available, so if you’d like your child to join in the fun, be quick—they won’t last long!
