🎙️ “That Was The Last Time I Ever Saw Him” | Joanne Ufer’s Story

The day after our Pike River movie fundraiser, Josh Collins from The Gold Room podcast sat down with Joanne Ufer to share the story of her son Josh, one of the 29 men who lost their lives in the Pike River Mine disaster on 19 November 2010.

What follows is a powerful and deeply personal conversation about loss, resilience, hope, and the real human impact behind every incident and the enduring strength of those left behind.

Jo takes us through the day everything changed, the agonising wait for answers, the years that followed, and the lessons she believes the mining industry must never forget.

More than fifteen years later, she continues to honour Josh’s legacy through her work with Miners' Promise, supporting mining families during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

This is not a conversation about production, profits, or projects. It’s a conversation about people. A reminder that every worker who signs onto site is someone’s son, daughter, partner, parent, or friend. Let’s carry this with us, into every shift, every decision, every conversation. Our actions today ensure that everyone goes home safely tomorrow.

🩵 💛 2025 Impact Report 💛 🩵

This month we proudly launched our inaugural Impact Report, a blend of beneficiary stories and quantification of our Australia-wide support for Mining, Energy and Resource families. We especially thank Aaron Morey for opening the event and Aaron Lawn for sharing his personal reflections on the care and enduring relationship the Lawn Family has with Miners' Promise.

2025 was a year of immense growth and significant impact for our Charity:

🚀 Launched our updated strategy, refreshed brand, new website and ‘The Gift’, a unique health, safety and wellbeing theatre experience.
📣 Announced our inaugural co-Patrons, Minister Madeleine King and Senator Susan McDonald, commenced appointment of Ambassadors across Australia and expanded our Board with East Coast representatives.
💛 Supported 41 families with more than 150 individuals cared for. More than double 2024.
💲 Raised $470,000 to sustain our Charity. More than triple 2024.
🩵 Through the generous donations of our industry colleagues, raised and donated a record $225,000 to support family’s journeying bereavement and life-changing injuries.

With six fatalities across Australia to date in 2026, the need for Miners’ Promise has never been greater, and as we move forward our vision is bold; to be integrated into the response plans on every Mining, Energy and Resource site in Australia.

Because when accidents happen, which they do, having trauma-informed response readiness, and the team at Miners’ Promise by your side ensures the best possible care in the toughest of times.

To those we serve, it is an honour and privilege.

To those who support us, we express our heartfelt appreciation.
