Modernism Matters: Architecture, Identity, and Innovation in WA - Wed 22nd April - 6:30pm at for the Boorloo Heritage Festival

FREE Event - Book your spot in the link in bio!

Celebrate Perth’s modernist legacy with a dynamic presentation/forum exploring the city’s architectural innovation from the 1950s to the 1970s — a period that transformed our built environment and continues to shape design thinking today.

Join leading architects, academics, and design experts as they examine why modernism still matters, and how heritage protection, public awareness, and adaptive reuse can safeguard this vital chapter in Western Australia’s story. (Nice to see feature in the promotion for the talk. The house was designed to be respectful of the architectural heritage of the precinct so it is nice to see the event organisers recognize that).

How good is this glass art astronomical body! You can see it yourself at the current Tom Malone Glass Art prize 2025 exhibition now on at It was an honor to again be a juror on the shortlist panel for the 2025 Tom Malone Glass Art Prize. Such a pleasure to debate the merits of the shortlisted works with fellow shortlist jurors DR Caterina Tognon, Tom Rowney, Gabriella Bisetto and Marc Leib. Then it was over to the finalist jurors Dante Marioni, Dr Stefano Carboni & Dr Robert Cook to select this deserving winner by glass artist Peter Bowles. Repost from

I’m beyond delighted to announce that my piece Quiescent Object : Kepler 186f has been selected as the winning work of the Tom Malone Prize 2025.

My sincere appreciation and gratitude to the judges, Stefano Carboni, Robert Cook and Dante Marioni for making what would have been a challenging task given the extraordinary work in this year’s shortlist.

Heartfelt thanks to Catarina Tognon, Neil Cownie, Gabriella Bisetto, Tom Rowney and Marc Leib for selecting the shortlist. It’s an extraordinary collection of works, complex, diverse and refreshing to see so many independent artists included. 🙏 Thankyou.

To Elizabeth Malone, thankyou for your vision, enduring support and passion for seeing contemporary glass flourish across all of Australia.

To Sheryl Grimwood, thankyou for your ongoing dedication, commitment and engagement in making our work visible nationally and internationally. Your tireless work is most appreciated by so many of us. Thankyou.

To all at Linton and Kay for presenting the work with so much care and thought. The show looks amazing!

I’m honoured to be amongst such an extraordinary community of makers, and honoured to now have a piece acquired into the AGWA collection.

Thankyou Anne, for all your support, insight and unwavering commitment to both yours and my work. Couldn’t be doing this without you.

I’m most deeply honoured and humbled.

Peter

Architect Ian Molyneux (1943 - 2025) continues to add to the vibe of Swanbourne with this understated masterpiece which is located on the south side of the Swanbourne Bridge. I just love this building with its compressed height, layering and the way that the building mass occupies the street corner. There are always signs of life from within the building, particularly when the apartment occupants hang their underwear to dry on the first floor balconies. Ah, such is life. Vale Ian Molyneux. photo by
