On this day we formally say goodbye to our colleague, friend and guide.

My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and clients.

As a student in the late 80s Paul was a critical teacher of the impact of functional and dis-functional design and construction on our fellow citizens in remote Aboriginal communities. He showed that poor design can harm or even kill. Like many others, he started my career with a strong foundations; de-bunking falsehoods and promoting a humanitarian approach.

His pragmatic evidenced based approach is now core to all good work done in many realms of design beyond that of the Australian Aboriginal and Torres Straight Island communities. He stressed the need to observe, listen and work with the communities to solve issues of habitation.

He was always available on the phone or email for a chat, advice, as a sounding board and for inspiration when the struggle seemed too hard.

His boots will never be filled; but if we work together we can overcome ignorance, prejudice and poor governance.

I will be forever in debt to him for his inspiration and clarity of thought.
