Our Sales/Operations Manager, Darren Gomes, recently spent time at the GEISMAR Rail Industry Technologies & Services UK facility to be trained in the calibration of Track Gauges.

Track Gauge calibration is a vital process of testing and adjusting the tools used to measure the exact distance between railway rails. It ensures the Gauges remain accurate, ensuring trains stay safely on the tracks - regular calibration prevents derailments caused by wide or tight rails.

Railways operate on strict tolerances. If the gap between the two tracks is even slightly off, trains can experience rough rides or, worse, derailment. Because track inspectors rely on handheld or digital Gauges to spot any flaws, those Gauges must be accurate!

Darren kindly sent through the images shown and a summary of his training experience in the UK:

🔹Set up calibration tables to calibrate the Emerald Gauge, Amber Track Gauge and Amber Trolley Gauge
🔹Ran through calibration on all Gauges using Geismar XL calibration software on a lap top connecting via Bluetooth to Gauge
🔹Ran through visual and manual inspection of all Gauges using specific check sheets created by Geismar UK to streamline inspection process. Also acts as a quality control and traceability QA for each customers Gauge, along with a calibration certificate.
🔹Disassembled then reassembled all Amber Gauges, Garnett Gauge and manual RCFF and RCA Gauges to get an idea on repair and common faults with equipment.
🔹Carried out manual calibration on RCFF and RCA Gauges.
🔹Was shown through the Geismar UK workshop where current equipment was being stocked and where the new Hilux rail vehicle was being fitting out for a customer. Also, saw their current projects and modifications being carried out on Geismar products to meet UK standards and regulations.
