The "In-Service" Burnout
I seem to be coming across this more and more in women.
They have quietly achieved the milestone of raising children into adulthood, finding themselves on a new pathway in life. And time for themselves. Often, it's a season of rediscovery. For some, it's about slowing down and finding new things they enjoy, creating space for friends and partners, and spending time on their homes, gardens, and perhaps even beginning to travel again.
Yet I am seeing so many women step straight out of parenting and into caring for ageing parents. And often, it's not just their own parents, but their husbands/partner's parents as well.
As they nurture these special people through the final phases of life, and navigate all the enormous work and detail involved in helping someone complete their life journey, they find themselves entering another season. One where their children begin to marry, and before long, grandchildren arrive.
Many of these women find themselves needed once again. Their children, now raising families of their own, often rely on grandparents for support. In today's economic climate, grandparents are needed more than ever, with both parents often working simply to provide the basics.
These women are weary.
Their bodies ache. Their relationships, which they once imagined would flourish in these quieter years, can become strained. And often, they have only the tired parts of themselves left to offer.
They have little capacity to sit with themselves.
Not because they have lived carelessly, but because they have spent decades being in service to others.
They carry not only the responsibilities of these roles, but the accumulated weight of a lifetime of experiences. Body aches. Illness. Poor gut health. Fatigue. all of this hitting as the women's bodies themselves are going through immense changes through menopause.
Now they are pushing through complete burnout. A nervous system that has been running for far too long without adequate rest. Capacity becomes limited.
So what would a truly rejuvenating session of care look like for someone like this?
A quiet room.
A comfortable massage table.
A weighted blanket.
A blackout eye mask.
Soft music.
Someone to nurture you.
Gentle support to help your nervous system settle into calm.
Then you simply rest.
No getting up and rushing off.
No one needing anything from you.
Just a safe space to be held, entirely for yourself.
Time to expand your capacity.
Time to support your system deeply.
This is The Deep Rest.
Two hours, just for you.
A chance to sink into the quiet.
Coming soon to The Kindness Project

My cats just being ever so helpful. They've helped select my new table, shelving, flowers, curtains and some decor.
How amazing does this new table look. Can't wait to try it out, think I will have to be the first "client" to try it out.
My hallway is filling up with new things ready for the painting to be completed.
Exciting 🥳🥳

The age-old concept of Who am I is an ever-changing process.
My name is Jennifer, owner of The Kindness Project.
Well now, who am I?
I am a soul, consciousness, a human. I am on a journey to access the truest version of myself; an unbecoming of what life taught me to be, and an extraordinary unfolding of all that I am. As I meander along the path of this lifetime, I hope my inner journey only ends upon my final breath.
I am blessed to be the sole/soul parent to two brilliant humans. It has been one of my greatest privileges guiding them through their childhood and now witnessing them begin their own adventures as young adults. As their mother, my goal was to provide them with a safe and happy childhood while helping them become functional adults with compassion, gentleness, and grounded morals and values that allow them to discover the beauty of life.
Parenting taught me I am a fighter, a protector, and that I can do the hardest things possible while cooking dinner and doing the washing. It has shown me that strength and gentleness are not opposites, and that hardship, difficulty, kindness, and empathy can co-exist. My parenting journey also became my greatest training ground for resilience, love, and self-compassion.
I am, deeply and profoundly, a horse person.
I am who I am because of them, without apology. They are a part of my heartbeat and my existence.
From childhood, through young adulthood, alongside raising a family, and now as I enter my next 50-year journey, animals continue to play a pivotal role in my life. Horses have been my greatest teachers and my closest companions. They show you love, presence, and awareness on a level difficult to put into words. Our whole world was built on their backs, yet they still choose to stand beside us. They hold no grievance for how humankind has used them, and instead continue to guide us toward stillness, attunement, and connection. That is something profoundly humbling for me to witness.
It is my life with horses that allows me to share from lived experience, and their lessons form the foundation of everything I offer.
My work helping others began by helping horses first.
I initially studied Equine Red-Light Therapy, Deep Tissue Massage, Myofascial Release I & II, Equine Anatomy, Equine Raindrop Technique, Animal Aromatherapy, and Animal Communication. It was through this work that horses taught me to see, hear, and feel life more deeply. They sharpened my awareness far beyond physical function alone and opened my understanding of the relationship between the body, emotion, energy, behaviour, and presence.
This curiosity eventually led me to explore Reiki and Quantum Touch as I tried to better understand and explain what I was naturally experiencing within both horses and people.
During one of these courses, a chance conversation between two women discussing Equine Facilitated Learning completely changed the direction of my life. The idea that horses could help people reconnect with themselves, restore function, and create profound internal change was something I had never realised could be formally learnt as a pathway of work.
From that moment, everything shifted.
I began formal studies in:
- Equine Facilitated Learning Level I & II
- Equine Experiential Learning for Individuals and Groups
In 2015, my studies expanded into Somatic Experiencing where I spent three years gaining a deeper understanding of our nervous system and how we store trauma and how we can move it through us. I began integrating these understandings into the work I offered alongside my horses, helping people reconnect with themselves through presence, attunement, embodiment, and nervous system restoration. It was also here; I found a passion and deep curiosity for our nervous system.
Then, in February 2018, I experienced another profound turning point when I met my teacher, Anandi Sano.
This marked the beginning of a far deeper journey into me.
What followed was not simply learning techniques or modalities, but a continual process of embodiment, self-exploration, recalibration, practice, and deepening my own capacity for stillness, presence, and conscious awareness.
Since then, I have remained committed to an ongoing pathway of learning and practice through the teachings of Peiec®. I became a practitioner in late 2018 and have continued walking this path ever since. My dedication and devotion to myself in this lifetime has led me to attend yearly in-person immersions and retreats, participate in healing events, and given me the privilege of working privately with her during the earlier years of my development. Over the past five years, I have participated in Anandi’s long-term twelve-month programs.
The embodiment of this work has become what I offer others; this is what I bring to you. Whether you decide to join my horses in our sacred space or choose to work with me in person, I am devoted to the quality of my presence, the attention to detail of each technique and depth of understanding of my work.
I share myself with you, from lived experience, deep practice, continual self-responsibility, and an ongoing devotion to understanding what truly helps human beings restore coherence, stillness, connection, and function within themselves.
I have recovered and remembered myself, from under the heavy weight and burdens of trauma, chronic pain, living with neurodivergence, raising children, being a full-time carer to an ill child, loneliness, grief, isolation, violence. Now I am just simply me.
I am a mother, a horse and animal lover.
A daughter, a sister, a friend.
I am a connection for you to your own self.
A chocolate lover, a learner.
I am love, kindness and gentleness.
I am space, presence and stillness.
I am truth of what exists.
I am committed to making the world a little better for horses and people alike.
My name is Jennifer and I would be honoured to be a part of your journey through this lifetime.

Over the next couple of weeks I will be closing my home office for a bit of a revamp!!
This is my inspo pic.
A new table is coming, for more comfort.
I am changing the way I offer my work. I want to take you on a deeper journey, parts of this will take time to build.
I want a space that will reflect the changes.
One new offering is coming very soon.
The Deep Rest.
A two hour appointment that allows you to stay, to integrate. No rush to leave.
I am seeing daily people who are powering through life, who don't have time to collapse, but are on the brink of burning out their whole system.
This is support for those who do it all for others.
This is a space where I will help your nervous system and body sink into stillness.
This is an invitation to stay past the work and rest.
Allow nurture and care to hold you.
This is a place to stop, let go of everything that is happening in life, and sink in to rest.
My new space will be a reflection of the sacredness and gentleness of my work.
A place to create deep inner change, a safe space to reconnect to yourself. A place of self discovery and liberation.
And so, a new journey begins ✨️
For me, and for you!

This amazing wee horse is Samsam, while he is pretty tiny in stature his abilities in his connection and work with people is monumental to say the least.
He loves to have conversations with people about their personal boundaries. Repeatedly until we begin to shift things, they understand where the issues truly lay and he helps them really hold the new boundaries in place.
He is very good at identifying who I will be working on first and loves working as a team to help release what a person is holding that is also preventing them from deeping their state of stillness.
His other two specialty areas are letting you know if you need to be a little more embodied and grounded. He will come and an untie your shoes, or even pick up and drop your feet, if you float back into your mind and leaving your body a little disconnected.
He also, very often works on peoples head, neck, and backs. Pushing them forwards in their chairs and resting his nose along their spine.
Sometimes people need to be held, they need touch, and extended hug. Something we can miss in life, Samsam knows and can stand with you and hold you in way you've never felt before. Other times he is assisting how your energy flows through your physical vessel. He will assist the body to shift so your own flow can move easily. As pain moves, we are able to find more space and expand our states of being. He helps you increase your inner stillness, presence, the depth of embodiment, and processing emotions.
He works on the assumption that if you show up, then you are ready to shift, as do all the herd. So, he doesn’t mess about with soft conversations. "If your here, let's go" seems to be motto. While it isnt the case for most people, he offers an opportunity to accept or reject. Most of the horses will move on if you reject what they offer you. Samsam can be a little more insistent that you get the message.
He often does a lot of work in our Being in Stillness events and that means he needs a lot of support too. Over the years we've built our little ways together, and during events he will come and ask for release if things build up to much. He will come and rest his face along my legs, we do a few things to help release the build up of energy so he doesn’t have to hold anything that isnt his.
The herd will assist each other too, you often see them making each other move off, if the energy is building or getting to heavy. This is definitely team work.
If you've ever been lucky enough to have a special encounter with Samsam, you'll understand what a beautiful, amazing and powerhouse of horse he truly is.
