As part of our NAIDOC Week celebrations, the National Native Title Tribunal was privileged to welcome Joshua Creamer for a special conversation about the importance of history, truth-telling and the ongoing journey towards greater understanding.
Drawing on his personal experiences and extensive work with First Nations communities, Josh shared stories that highlighted why understanding Australia's history remains important today. He spoke about the lasting impacts of past policies and events, and the value of creating space for people to share their experiences and perspectives.
In the spirit of this year's NAIDOC Week theme, Josh also reflected on the contributions of those who have come before us and the responsibility we all share to help create opportunities for future generations. His insights served as a reminder that every conversation, every story and every effort to learn contributes to a deeper understanding of Australia's shared history.
We thank Josh for his generosity in sharing his knowledge and experiences with our staff and for helping to foster meaningful reflection during NAIDOC Week.

This week, Registrar Katie Stride, Mediation Manager Rebecca Apostolopoulos and Acting Manager Amanda Gamble presented on the topic "Embedding Cultural Competence in Mediation and other ADR Processes" at the Resolution Institute symposium on culturally responsive dispute resolution in First Nations contexts.
We were grateful for the opportunity to share insights from our practice — including Amanda’s honest reflections as a First Nations woman and long-serving practitioner on what current mediation training gets right, and where it falls short.
The NNTT has been working with Resolution Institute to co-design a mediation training module that better reflects the realities of this work. The first course ran in October last year, and we’re continuing to build on it.
The next training opportunity is set to commence in August 2026 in Melbourne. For further information, please visit the register page: https://brnw.ch/21x34DO
