Part 3: The Lunchroom Scene — The Cigarette
Part 3 of 6 | Recognising the Signs: Boundaries and Physical Autonomy

In a healthy relationship, both partners have an equal right to physical autonomy, personal boundaries, and respect.

In this scene, we see a distinct escalation in behaviour when an object is physically taken from someone without their consent. A partner does not have the right to physically override another person’s choices, even if they disapprove of those choices.

This kind of conduct can indicate an attempt to dominate, control, or enforce compliance by physically overriding another person’s agency. Recognising the shift from verbal pressure to a physical boundary violation is a critical step in identifying unhealthy behaviour patterns.

Part 1 of 6 : The Dinner Scene | Recognising the Signs: Autonomy and Control

Healthy relationships respect each person’s choices, voice, and independence. In this clip, we see a dynamic where decisions are made for someone else without their input.

Over time, behaviour like this can become a warning sign of coercive control, where a person’s everyday choices, autonomy, and independence are gradually restricted.

Recognising these early patterns helps us understand how control can begin subtly before escalating into more overt forms of intimidation or abuse.
