NAIDOC Week 2026 marks a significant milestone, recognising 50 years of celebrating the strength, culture and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
This year’s theme, “50 Years of Deadly,” honours the communities, Elders, leaders and creatives who have shaped and carried NAIDOC forward over the past five decades. It celebrates culture, identity and resilience and acknowledges the strength it has taken to reach this point and the voices that have made it possible.
NAIDOC Week has always been more than a single week of celebration. It is a time to listen, learn and reflect—acknowledging the history of protest, truth-telling and cultural pride that continues to shape the movement today.
As we mark this milestone, we reflect on the journey so far, including the stories, achievements and leadership that have shaped NAIDOC. We also recognise the important role Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people continue to play across all areas of society.
“50 Years of Deadly” also looks ahead to the future, celebrating the strength of community, the continuation of culture and the next chapter of NAIDOC—guided by connection to Country, identity and community leadership.
This NAIDOC Week, we are encouraged to reflect, learn and take part in ways that support and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, now and into the future.
