Reconciliation Memoirs with June Oscar in conversation with Victoria Laurie
June Oscar’s memoir speaks to a lifelong commitment to her people, her Country and the pursuit of justice. A proud Bunuba leader, her work, both in her Kimberley community and nationally, has helped shape the lives of many, particularly First Nations women and girls whose voices she continues to elevate.
Her leadership, grounded in care, responsibility and collective wellbeing, is a powerful reminder of what it means to know your truth and lead with authenticity.
We are honoured to have shared this important conversation.

The Zenadth Kes/Torres Strait Islander flag was designed by the late Bernard Namok of Waiben/Thursday Island.
The flag was recognised by the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission in June 1992 and has had equal prominence with the Aboriginal flag for more than 30 years as an official flag of Australia under Commonwealth legislation.
The meaning of the Torres Strait Islander flag is represented through:
🟩 Green: Land
🟦 Blue: Sea
⬜ White: Peace
⬛ Black: The Torres Strait Islander peoples
At the centre of the Torres Strait Islander flag is a dhari (headdress) that represents the Torres Strait Islander peoples, and a five-pointed star that represents the five major island groups, and the role of navigation in this sea-faring culture.
