Job coach, helping young adults seek employment

19/04/2022

Anyone keen to jump on a zoom at 4pm this afternoon? To help teach interview skills to some young adults….

Only 15 mins needed, unpaid, you are just helping out.

I would give you the question, and I would get the young adults to ask you it and you would answer it.

Then these young adults have to give feedback on how you answered the question.

It’s so they learn how others would answer interview questions that are most commonly asked.

Anyone free for a zoom at 4pm ?

Shout out to Leah Moule for zooming in on our interview training today.

Leah impressed us with her wealth of experience within recruitment but more importantly for us, her interview experience.

We have been learning some interview questions that would normally be asked but Leah reworded them, to teach us.

For eg the standard question we always seem to get asked is ‘what is your strength?’ so we thought we had that question, kind of learnt.

So Leah reworded and asked it like ‘Josh, what do you think is your strongest strength?’

He couldn’t answer it. Leah asked it again but how we had been learning ‘what is your strength?’ and straight away he answered it.

So todays lesson for our young adults is

A. Listen to the question, what are they asking?

B. Interview questions might be all similar but can be reworded differently than we have prepared.

C. Don’t answer an interview question with ‘I don’t know’

Thanks Leah for your time, greatly appropriated.

Little miss and I are getting some work experience today on the cash register at Salvation Army op shop in Lawnton.

Little miss is shy and speaks so quietly to strangers.

This is putting her out of her comfort zone today but she’s giving it a go.

Surprisingly she’s nailed using the till as it’s a touch pad, so much like her iPad.

When a customer comes to the counter, I’m pushing little miss to say Hello, how are you today? In a big voice. Learning some customer skills is a great skill.

Tho it must be scary for young adults. 𝙄𝙩𝙨 𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙮 𝙩𝙤 𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙜𝙚𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙩𝙤𝙙𝙖𝙮'𝙨 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙜 𝘼𝙙𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙨 𝙘𝙖𝙣 𝙗𝙚 𝙨𝙝𝙮, 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙚𝙧𝙫𝙚𝙙 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙡𝙖𝙘𝙠 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙛𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚.

Tho I gotta say when I was 18 years old I was so scared of serving customers at my parents take away shop.

The feeling you get when you do something you didn’t think you could do is priceless.

Next session, not that she knows this yet… she’s going to go to Salvos for the morning by herself.

Doesn’t sound like a big deal for most of us but when your a young Adult doing things solo it’s hard, it’s scary that you rather not even try.

That’s were we come into play, to motivate you to try.

Little miss never wanted to volunteer but she loves it now.

She takes pride in sorting out the kids clothes. It’s like her section.

Wish her luck going herself, hopefully she will do it.

Little steps to be independent and more skills to put on the resume, right?

If you found this profile from the hashtags or explore page, Hi there. Do you have a young Adult at home, unemployed ? Do they need some help to find a job?

With young Mr today at Lifeline.

He’s had a few part time jobs but always gets fired.

Why? Because he doesn’t turn up on time.

We signed up to volunteer 9.30am-3pm Monday’s and Tuesdays.

We have set a few alarms in the morning to get up and one to leave the house.

We also started setting a timetable to stick to so that we didn’t sleep in every other morning.

Next learning is to keep to a set lunch break and not go over your set times. 𝙏𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨 𝙬𝙚 𝙩𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙨𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙜 𝘼𝙙𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙨 𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙙 𝙞𝙩 𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙙 𝙠𝙚𝙚𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙠 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙚𝙨.

If you found this page from hashtags or the explore page. Hi, we support young adults to get motivated to find work.

You’re young Mr or Miss might need some support to manage their time or to be independent catching public transport, or help with interviews or help with a resume / cover letters or maybe they just need to get some work experience to get some job confidence and to put this experience on their resume. To have some references also other than a family friend or teacher.

Maybe you’re young adult needs support to learn how to go and ask for a job.

It’s not something that everyone is comfortable doing but with some tips and us showing you how, some practices, maybe they will gain a job.

Better still if they get the job themselves they will be much more prouder than us giving them a job.
𝙈𝙮 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙨 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙝𝙚𝙡𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙨𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙤𝙡 𝙠𝙞𝙙𝙨 𝙜𝙚𝙩 𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙥𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙥𝙨 𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙬𝙨 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙣 𝙝𝙖𝙡𝙛, 𝙛𝙚𝙡𝙡 𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙟𝙤𝙗.

Falling out of jobs can make us feel very depressed and lack confidence so we interview badly and then we still don’t have a job. Then we get depressed as we didn’t get that job.

It’s a circle.

Call us for support.

No government funding is available for this service, so their will be a cost for support.

Maybe its only a few sessions but what if you’re young Adult got a job ? Be worth it, right ….
