ON THE ROAD SUNRISE - acrylic on canvas, 60 x 91 cm. Based on a road trip photograph taken from a moving car at sunrise, this painting was created to capture the feeling of the freshness of a new day’s light. After driving all night, the colours of the new day were almost overwhelming. I wanted to show the movement looking out that side window, the only objects in focus were the kangaroos. I used a ‘Georges Seurat’ style pointillistic painting method, setting colours beside each other to create the effect of even more colours. I can’t count how many transparent layers went into this work, but I got the look was wanted. The whole effect is almost like looking out a window, the painting has an inner light that commands your attention.
