The impact of sugar and sugary drinks on kids teeth 🦷🍬

We all know kids love sweet treats : juices, soft drinks, biscuits, lollies… 🍭 But did you know that sugar is one of the main causes of tooth decay in children?

Here’s why sugar can be so harmful to those little smiles:

❗ When your child eats or drinks sugar, the bacteria in their mouth feed on it and produce acid.
This acid attacks the enamel (the hard outer layer of the tooth), leading to cavities and tooth decay over time.

⚠️ Sugary drinks are especially harmful.
Even fruit juices and flavoured milk can contain high amounts of sugar and because they’re often sipped slowly, the teeth are exposed to acid for longer periods.

👶 Children’s teeth are more vulnerable than adult teeth. Baby teeth have thinner enamel and are more easily damaged by acid attacks.

✅ Offer water instead of juice or soft drinks
✅ Keep sugary foods and drinks as occasional treats, not daily snacks
✅ Encourage brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste
