If you’re an early-career AEP navigating exercise oncology — this is for you.
We speak with many early-career AEPs starting to work in this space and we keep hearing the same things:
“I don’t feel confident with complex cases.”
“I know the guidelines, but I’m not sure how to apply them.”
“I second-guess my clinical decisions.”
If that sounds familiar — you’re not alone.
The transition from theory to real-world exercise oncology practice is one of the most challenging parts of early clinical work.
That’s exactly why we created Beyond the Guidelines: Exercise Oncology in Clinical Practice.
Guided by experienced clinicians who work in exercise oncology every day, this workshop is designed to build the clinical confidence that training alone doesn’t give you.
🧠 Across the day you’ll cover:
Morning — Foundations
∙ Cancer 101: pathophysiology, treatments, and modifiable risk factors across breast, prostate, and colorectal cancer
∙ The role of exercise across the cancer continuum — and why it matters for your patients
Afternoon — Application
∙ Trial vs. Reality: applying guidelines to real-world case studies across cancer types
∙ Translating evidence into practice for colorectal and metastatic breast cancer
∙ Communication strategies for the hardest conversations in clinical oncology
Not just what the evidence says — but how experienced clinicians actually apply it.

Exercise can reduce fatigue, boost energy, and support your body’s resilience during radiation therapy.
By managing side effects and keeping you stronger, it can help you complete all your sessions without interruption and maybe help it work a little better.
💡 Radiation therapy needs oxygen to target tumours effectively — and exercise helps by boosting blood flow and oxygen delivery to your tissues, which may enhance the treatment effect.

Start small — even 10 minutes a day makes a difference — and build up to 30 minutes as your energy allows.
Choose activities that get your blood pumping and make you a little short of breath, such as:
🚶♀️ Walking
💃 Dancing
🚴 Cycling
🥾 Hill walks
🌡️ If heat or skin changes are an issue, exercise indoors or in air-conditioning to stay comfortable.
To increase intensity, find a hill or hop on a bike — getting a bit huff and puff helps your heart rate rise and blood flow improve.
If you’re not sure where to begin, start with gentle stretching or Pilates-style movements to move your body safely and build confidence.
✨ More energy, less fatigue, and improved strength — exercise helps you feel better and get the most from your treatment.
