The Australian Institute of Sport, in partnership with Sports Medicine Australia, ACSEP Australasian College of Sport and Exercise Physicians and the Australian Physiotherapy Association, has launched the ‘Concussion and Brain Health Position Statement 2024’ and the ‘Australian Concussion Guidelines for Youth and Community Sport’.

They bring together the most contemporary evidence-based information on recognising and managing concussion for parents, teachers, coaches, sideline staff and others involved in youth and community sport.

What can a physio do to treat my concussion??

Physios and other Health Care Professionals who have completed comprehensive training in concussion management can offer guidance with diet and nutrition that focuses on reducing inflammation and repairing the gut.

They can also suggest improvements to sleep hygiene to encourage restorative sleep and promote the body’s natural circadian rhythm, which is often affected after a concussion.

These simple adjustments may help to lessen symptoms, reduce fatigue, regulate hormones and balance a persisting inflammatory response.

Concussion management may seem complex, but there are many subtle changes you can make in your daily life that will encourage recovery 😊
