Proud to have played my part in the cotton gin and the expansion of Ord farming which goes hand in hand with the need for processing facilities.
Respect to all involved - the visionaries and leaders, the persistent, the adaptable, the stubborn, the community-minded and outcomes-focused locals and supporters; and especially to the farmers who have invested heavily and taken the risk.
First delivery at new $60m Kimberley cotton gin After more than a decade of work, the Kimberley Cotton Gin in Kununurra has officially opened with the project expected to create more than 1000 jobs over the next decade.

Absolutely thrilled to receive an $8.6m grant from the WA Government's Lower Carbon Grants fund, for the Mardie Char Project.
I've been working with www.biomassprojects.com.au and https://ideaservices.com.au for the last couple of years. First job: get the sub-lease on the 225,000ha Mardie Station (done!). Mardie is 100km south of Karratha. If you know the Fortescue Roadhouse, that's the place! It also has Citic Pacific's iron ore and BCI's Mardie salt mine on the property, but there's plenty of room for all of us.
We'll be clearing mesquite (a nasty, thorny woody w**d) on Mardie. The mesquite grows by taking carbon dioxide from the air and turning the carbon into wood. We'll chip & then pyrolyse [cook] it at very high temperatures with minimal oxygen. This produces a very pure form of charcoal which can be used in steel production as a replacement for traditional coal, in land rehabilitation and long term (1000 year +) carbon storage, or in other carbon dioxide removal (CDR) activities. This process releases minimal carbon emissions. We'll rehabilitate the pastoral station landscape, and it's all being done in commercial partnerships with the Traditional Owners. Win/win/win.
So to say I'm excited is an understatement. This is as a co-owner but also as the head of environmental and other statutory approvals and all things involving filling out forms (and believe me, there is a lot of them!).
To top it off, we're pre-qualified for carbon dioxide removal credits through puro.earth, which is a global carbon trading platform owned by NASDAQ.
Things just got real! I can't tag Richard Paterson in this but his big ideas are going to make a difference to WA's carbon footprint, and I'm excited to be part of such an innovative company.
We're called Biomass Projects. Watch this space!
